Many patients who have already had bariatric surgery will follow up with an additional revision surgery in Mexicali or Tijuana. Revision surgery modifies the surgery that was already done previously. Bariatric surgeries do tend to have a long lasting effect or perhaps a permanent effect on most individuals. However, there are many that tend to regain the weigh slowly in time.
Obesity as we all know is a very serious disease. Bariatric surgery can be a life changing and life altering change and that can help the life expectancy of an individual tremendously. But at the same it is not a cure. It is a commitment that one does and the adherence to a lifestyle that involves exercise and nutrition that are key components in order to make the surgery a success!
Bariatric surgery is a deterrent to weight gain. Many patients do tend to fall off the band wagon and a revision will solve the problem. Weight gain can slowly occur in the course of time. Many factors contribute to weight gain after a surgery. Some times over time the stomach tends to stretch out as in the case of a few that have had gastric sleeve surgery and eventually the weight starts to come back. Pregnancy, hormones and depression can once again trigger weight gain in some cases.
